John McCormack Named Assistant Coach of the Year
May 15, 2003
AFLAC, one of the world's leading providers of insurance, announced that Florida Atlantic University's John McCormack was named National Assistant Coach-of-the-Year. With over 350,000 nominations from across the country, Associate Head Baseball Coach John McCormack was one of 500 high school and college recipients to garner the award. McCormack, a native of Boca Raton, has been at FAU for 13 seasons and has been the Associate Head Coach for five years. Part of his coaching duties include acting as the recruiting coordinator for a nationally ranked team. In the 10 years that McCormack has recruited, FAU has won 378 games, tied a national record for consecutive-games won (34), participated in four NCAA Regionals, playing in the championship game three times and last year won the Tuscaloosa Regional over the national no. 3 team, Alabama. In the schools' nine-year history at the Division I level, two FAU players have been named All-Americans, one Freshman All-American, eight to the All-Region team and 13 to the All-Conference team. McCormack has also developed a relationship with professional scouts and has witnessed 43 players be drafted or sign with professional team.
The criteria in the second annual AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year program allowed for coaches to win based on longevity, expertise, contributions to the school and community, and special achievements throughout their careers.
