Baseball Travels to Statesboro, GA for Non-conference Games

No. 11 Florida Atlantic University will travel to Statesboro, GA this weekend to play Georgia Southern University and New York Institute of Technology in the squads first non-conference games since April 2 when FAU defeated Miami in 13 innings.

The three games are scheduled over three days. FAU (39-11) will face New York Tech on Thursday and Saturday at 7 pm and 1:30 pm, respectively. On Friday at 7 pm Florida Atlantic will match-up against Georgia Southern. The meeting will be the first between the three teams.

New York Tech is led by Anthony St. George with a .336 average and 24 RBIs and two home runs.

Georgia Southern has five players holding batting averages over .300. The offense is spread around with different players leading the team in batting average, home runs and RBIs. Carlos Love holds a .348 batting average, while Rocky Baker has 37 RBIs and A.J. Zickgraf has a team-leading seven home runs. GSU has played seven games against Atlantic Sun opponents andholds a 5-2 record against the A-Sun.

Right-handed pitchers, Chris Saxton (3-3) and Danny Core (6-2) are expected to start the evening games on Friday and Saturday, while left-hander Travis NeSmith (7-1) will start the final game of the weekendagainst New York Tech.

Currently on a 14-game hitting streak, Rusty Brown leads FAU with a .373 average and 41 RBIs.

Notes: Head Coach Kevin Cooney could pick up his 700th career win with two victories this weekend.

Randy Beam is tied for first in the nation with 11wins.
