Kevin Cooney, FAU Seniors to be Honored This Weekend
May 6, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - Long-time Florida Atlantic University head baseball coach Kevin Cooney and ten of his out-going players will be honored in pre-game ceremonies this weekend at FAU Stadium as part of the Owls' three-game weekend series against Sun Belt Conference rivals Arkansas State University. Cooney, who is retiring following the 2008 season, is in the midst of his 17th winning season in 21 years as head coach. He will be honored before Saturday's 4 p.m. game against ASU. A special commemorative ticket will be issued for Saturday's game. All fans who bring that ticket with them to Sunday's game will receive a discounted $3 admission. Ten final-year players will be recognized on `Senior Day,' Sunday May 11. A brief ceremony will be held prior to the 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch. All mothers who attend Sunday's series-finale will be admitted for just $3. Cooney and his Owls will be trying to rebound from a three-game sweep at the hands of No. 29 University of New Orleans last weekend. A strong finish to the regular season will assure FAU a spot in the league's postseason tournament May 20-25 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
