FAU's Mike McKenna Sweeps National Player of the Week Honors
March 25, 2008 BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic senior outfielder Mike McKenna has swept `National Player of the Week' honors from college baseball's most respected publications. After hitting seven homeruns and driving in 19 RBI in just six games last week, McKenna drew praise from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and PingBaseball.com. The accolades continue to pile up for McKenna, who was a unanimous preseason All-America pick. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week McKenna went 12-for-22 (.545 BA) with seven home runs and 19 RBI in six games last week. McKenna, the Sun Belt's top returning hitter (.413 BA in 2007), led the Owls to a perfect 6-0 record. He homered three times in FAU's series-opener against Middle Tennessee State (tying a school record), going 4-for-5 with seven RBI. He began the week by belting two homers and driving in five against Cornell, a lopsided 10-1 FAU victory. He had three RBI one night later against Rutgers and went on to total 10 runs and 34 total bases in just six games. McKenna is hitting .434 this season, leading the Sun Belt Conference in home runs (13), RBI (43) and total bases (82)- amassing these numbers in just 22 games.
