Saturday's Game Halted Due to Rain
March 22, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - Saturday's game two of Florida Atlantic's three-game series with Middle Tennessee State has been postponed due to heavy rain passing through South Florida. The two teams will pick up the game where it was left off Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. FAU was leading 11-0 and still batting in the bottom of the third inning when play was halted. The teams will then play the scheduled third game of the series approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends. Eight of FAU's nine starters had scored a run and eight different FAU players had posted a hit before play was suspended Saturday afternoon. Six straight Owls reached base off MTST starting pitcher Kenneth Roberts in the bottom of the second inning. RBI base hits in the frame by David Wilson and Troy Bubley gave Florida Atlantic an early 3-0 lead. FAU starter Jeff Beliveau was cruising, striking out four of the first six batters he faced and had fanned six in three complete innings before rain halted play. Riaan Spanjer-Furstenberg's second homerun in as many games came in the `on-going' third inning, taking a 3-1 pitch from Roberts over the right field fence, scoring Mike McKenna and Tom Hatcher to push the FAU lead to six, 6-0. The Owls continued to pour it on, scoring five more times off both Roberts and Langdon Stanley. FAU will have a runner on first base with two outs in the bottom of the third inning, leading by 11 runs when play resumes Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
