FAU's Run in A-Sun Tournament Ends

May 26, 2006

Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University closed out its tenure in the Atlantic Sun Conference on Friday as the baseball team fell to East Tennessee State 5-1 in the A-Sun Tournament. The Owls finish the season with a 30-28 record while the Buccaneers advance in to the tournament with a 31-26 record.

FAU's first hit of the contest came off of ETSU starting pitcher Caleb Glafenhein and led to the Owls's lone run. Mike McKenna doubled to start the inning and advanced to third on a ground out before a sacrifice fly William Block gave FAU the early lead.

Glafenhein (2-4) pitched a complete game in his third start in the tournament. He struck out three and limited the Owls to one run on five hits.

In his second start of the season, Andrew Tomlin held the Buccaneers to two runs on nine hits in five innings and struck out three. The junior suffered the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year.

Four ETSU players finished with three hits to lead the 17 hit attack. Anthony Russell finished with three hits and three RBI for East Tennessee.

"The character this team showed this season, is no solace right now, but it was something special," said head coach Kevin Cooney. "It will be a great help to them in the future when they are faced with adversity."

Three seniors, Anthony Albano, Tim Mascia and Will Mann played in their final contest for the Owls.
