Three Home Runs Not Enough in 10-6 Loss to Stetson

May 12, 2006

Final Stats

A five home run game was capped off by a home run in the eighth inning by Stetson University's Nick Palmisano as the Hatters took a 7-6 lead over Florida Atlantic University. The Hatters went on to score three more runs in the frame as they took a 10-6 win in the first game of the Atlantic Sun Conference series.

The Owls (25-25, 10-15 A-Sun) used six extra base to score all of their runs. In the second inning, Mike McKenna tripled off of the top of the fence in left centerfield before a ground out by William Block plated the first run of the contest.

In the third inning, Stetson capitalized on a leadoff walk by Shane Jordan. Jordan moved to third on a Brandon Paritz single to right field before a double steal gave the Hatters their first run of the contest. Partiz would score the second run on a sacrifice fly to give Stetson a 2-1 lead.

The first home run of the game came off of the bat of Jordan Hafer in the fifth inning. Chris Johnson countered with a three-run home run to regain the lead for the Hatters in th bottom of the frame.

The scoring continued in the sixth as Alex Silversmith hit a two-run homer to centerfield.

Stetson (30-20, 13-12 A-Sun) took a 6-4 lead into the eighth inning as the Hatters switched pitchers. Closer Robbie Elsemiller proceeded to give up a triple to Alex Silversmith before Mike McKenna hit his first home run of the season to tie the contest.

Nick Palmisano then gave the Hatters back the lead with his home run off of Mickey Storey. Storey (6-8) suffered the loss after he threw 7 1/3 innings and allowed 10 runs on 12 hits and struck out six.
