Final Stats

No. 11 Florida Atlantic University (42-11) ended the weekend with 15 hits in a 11-3 win over New York Tech in Statesboro, GA on Saturday afternoon. The game was close until FAU scored eight runs in the final two innings.

Back to back home runs in the second inning provided FAU's only runs until the seventh inning. Rob Horst (Gering, NE) provided a two-run homer to left field, his seventh of the season, and was followed by a solo shot by Shaen O'Connor (Jupiter, FL).

New York Tech's Garrett McDevitt hit his first home run of the season off of FAU starting pitcher Travis NeSmith in the top of the third. A walk and two doubles by first baesman Christian Diez and center fielder Andrew Karkoulas were the only three runs that the Bears scored off of FAU.

Travis NeSmith worked five inning and did not receive a decision as he gave up three runs on eight hits and walked one. Matt O'Brien came out of the pen to improve to 1-1 and worked three innings and only allowed one hit. Allen Knight made his eighth appearance of the season in the eight inning and did not allow a runner to reach base.

After NYIT starting pitcher Jon Burke exited the game, the Bears fell apart as the pitching staff walked five and allowed eight runs on seven hits over the next two innings as New York Tech falls to 13-27.

Jeff Fiorentino (Hollywood, FL) finished the game with a 3-for-4 performance and scored two runs to lead Florida Atlantic.

FAU will conclude the regular season next weekend when it hosts Stetson University in a three-game conference series at FAU Stadium. The top two teams in the A-Sun will battle it out for the conference title at 7 pm on Friday and in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm.
