Baseball Drops Series Finale 12-7 to MTSU

May 6, 2007

Final Stats

After outscoring Middle Tennessee State University 24-5 in a doubleheader on Saturday, the Blue Raiders bounced back by taking the series finale 12-7 over Florida Atlantic University at Reese Smith Field on Sunday afternoon. Mike McKenna and Robbie Widlansky both homered in the 12-hit FAU effort.

Middle Tennessee (25-23, 13-11 SBC) jumped out to a 10-0 lead after five innings as the team picked up 11 hits off of three FAU pitchers. Meanwhile, MTSU's Matt Scott held the Owls scoreless through six innings on five hits and struck out four to improve to 4-4 on the year. The first two hits that FAU starter Brandon Kloess allowed were home runs to Wayne Kendrick and Adam Warren in the first inning. Kloess left after 3 1/3 innings and suffered the loss to fall to 2-1 after he allowed seven runs on six hits.

The Owls (30-18, 12-15) rallied in the seventh inning with six runs. Pinch hitter Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg reached after being hit by a pitch and Justin Martin and Tyler Stevens followed it up with hits. Stevens' RBI double drove home the first run of the contest for FAU. Daniel Cook drove in two runs with a single, Robbie Widlansky added an RBI single and Mike McKenna delivered his second homer of the weekend to post the fifth and sixth runs of the contest for FAU.

After the Blue Raiders added two runs for insurance, the Owls mustered one run in the ninth inning on a Widlansky solo homer. The outfielder finished the afternoon with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with two RBI. For the weekend he went 8-for-15 (.533).

FAU will play a makeup game with Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday in Daytona at 4 p.m. before hosting the Wildcats in a three-game series on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Boca Raton.
