Owls Score 10 Runs in Four Innings for 10-6 Win

May 5, 2006

Final Stats

In a pivotal Atlantic Sun Conference weekend, Florida Atlantic University's baseball team opened a three-game series with Lipscomb University with a 10-6 win. The Owls posted 10 runs in the first four innings and then held on to improve to 23-22, 9-13 A-Sun, while the Bisons fell to 18-26, 9-13 A-Sun.

Battling for spots in the conference tournament, Mickey Storey managed to hold Lipscomb scoreless through the first five innings as FAU gave the team the early lead. Storey allowed an unearned run in the sixth inning before he exited, but took the win to improve to 6-7 behind four strikeouts.

While Storey took care of the Bisons, FAU's bats created 13 hits in the first four innings. Tim Mascia starting the game by going 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI as eight of the Owls starter recorded hits in the four frames.

Brandon McClurg (3-2) made the start for the Bisons and lasted 1 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks. Reliever Paul Piennette did not fare much better as he allowed five runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings. Robby Smithson entered in the fourth inning and shut down the Owls as he only allowed two hits in the final five innings and he struck out five.

Tyler Stevens and Jordan Hafer also finished with two RBI for the Owls, while Tadd Brewer and Nathan Sensing both finished 2-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBI to pace Lipscomb.

The two teams will close out the series on Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at FAU Stadium.
