Baseball Drop 3-2 Contest to UALR

April 14, 2007

Final Stats

UALR squelched a Florida Atlantic University comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning to take a 3-2 victory in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday night. After posting one run in the last inning, the Owls had runners at second and third with one out but could not push across the tying run. The Trojans improve to 14-20, 4-9 SBC, while the Owls fall to 23-14, 6-11 SBC.

After posting three runs in the first three innings, UALR's offense did not score another run. Chris Salberg earned the start for FAU and suffered the loss after 5 1/3 innings. The senior allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out five. Brandon Kloess entered in relief and only allowed one hit in 3 2/3 innings.

The Owls scored their first run in the sixth inning. With two outs Mike McKenna doubled down the left field line before Travis Ozga drove in the run with a single to right field.

The FAU rally in the ninth started as the first two batters reached base. Daniel Cook picked up his second hit of the contest to shrink the lead to a run. After a sacrifice bunt moved two runners into scoring position, UALR brought in Steve Gilgenback to earn the save as he struck out the final two batters he faced.

Ashur Tolliver (4-3) earned the win after he worked eight innings and struck out 10, while allowing two runs on seven hits.

The final contest of the series has been moved up to 10 a.m. on Sunday due to expected bad weather in the area. Please check www.fausports.com for updates.
