Baseball Falls to Troy 12-6

March 17, 2007

Final Stats

In the first Sun Belt Conference game at FAU Stadium, Troy University took a 12-6 contest from Florida Atlantic University Friday night. After a 30 minute weather delay, the Owls' offense could not match a 12 hit performance from the Trojans to fall to 17-5, 2-2 SBC, while Troy improves to 11-8, 2-2 SBC.

Both starters were roughed up and left in the fourth inning. Clegg Snips left after 4 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on eight hits and struck out five. His counterpart Mike Obradovich (4-1) suffered the loss after 4 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs, four earned, on eight hits and four strikeouts.

The Owls would get within one run at 7-6 after posting four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Owls saw Nick Arata start the inning wit a single and William Block follow with a double. Daniel Bomback pushed one run across the plate with a sacrifice fly before Robbie Widlansky and Mike McKenna put together back-to-back home runs.

Despite the run, the Trojans' offense would not slow down as they posted runs in five of the last six innings. Kevin Weidlich and Brett Henry both led the team with three hit performances, while Clint Robinson finished with four RBI.

Rob Brown (3-1) earned the win in relief as he worked 1 2/3 innings and did not allow a hit. Josh Dew earned his third save as he threw the final three innings and allowed one hit while striking out four.

Bomback, Widlansky and Tyler Stevens all finished with two hits for FAU.

The two teams will play again on Saturday at 7 p.m. with the final game of the three-game Sun Belt series scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
