Storey Strikes Out Ten in Win

Feb. 17, 2006

Final Stats

Jonathon Shapland and Anthony Albano each had bases clearing doubles in Florida Atlantic University's 13-4 win over Louisville Friday night at FAU Stadium. FAU starting pitcher Mickey Storey put together 10 strikeouts to stymie the Cardinals' bat to pick up his first win of the year.

Three infield singles and a walk plated one run before Albano (Chicago, IL) picked up three of his four RBI with a double to left centerfield for the 4-0 lead against U of L starter Trystan Magnuson. Magnuson suffered the loss after he threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits and struck out three.

The Cardinals (0-2) fought back to bring the game within one at 5-4 in the top of the fourth inning as Logan Johnson picked up a home run in the third inning and a leadoff walk hurt Storey in the third. Two unearned runs in the fourth inning gave Louisville hope before FAU (3-4) posted eight runs in the next two innings to put the game out of reach.

Storey put U of L down in order in the fifth and then struck out two batters in the sixth to improve to 1-0 on the year. The sophomore worked six innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out a season-high 10, one shy of his career-high.

FAU freshman William Block continues on his torrid pace and picked up three hits to pace the Owls.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday at 7 p.m. Chris Salberg is expected to face Louisville's David Torcise.
