Baseball Completes Second Sweep of the Season

Feb. 11, 2007

Final Stats

The Florida Atlantic University baseball team completed its second sweep of the season by defeating the University of Cincinnati 15-9 Sunday afternoon at FAU Stadium. FAU's William Block led the charge with 4-for-4 effort with four RBI, two runs scored and two walks.

The Owls (6-0) showed the ability to post a come back as they quickly fell behind 7-0 to the Bearcats in the second inning. UC (0-3) put up seven runs in the second frame on balls hit through the infield and in the shallow outfield. FAU pitcher Mike Obradovich (2-0) got out of the inning and did not allow another run in his five innings of work. He matched his strikeout mark from his first start of the season with five.

"Obradovich threw well," said Head Coach Kevin Cooney. "They hit the ball just out of the reach of our fielders."

In the bottom of the frame, FAU responded by putting six straight batters on base. Justin Ferreira, Daniel Cook, Nick Arata all reached and William Block delivered his second home run of the season over the left field fence to decrease the lead to two.

An RBI single in the third inning by William Block tied the score and the Owls would roll on offense as they scored runs in six-straight innings.

"Allowing them to score seven runs and then coming back and scoring showed what type of club we have," said Cooney.

Arata finished the contest with a career-high three hits and three RBI and FAU hit four home runs against the Cincinnati pitchers.

Kyle Rapp got the nod on the mound for UC and lasted 1 1/3 innings before being relieved by Nick Buscemi and Brian Garman, who suffered the loss. Kevin Johnson lasted 1 1/3 innings before giving way to Robb Thompson who did not allow a run in the final 2/3 innings.

Cameron Satterwhite led the UC offense with a three-for-four effort, one RBI and two runs scored. Tony Campana and Kyle Rapp both finished with two RBI in the loss.

FAU will remain at home for its third series of the year as it hosts the FAU Beach Ball Bash on February 16-18 at FAU Stadium. The Owls will face off against Lasalle on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
