Baseball Cruises by FAMU 12-4

Final Stats

In the second game of the series, no. 19 Florida Atlantic University cruised by Florida A&M, 12-4, Saturday night at FAU Stadium. FAU used five multiple-run innings behind the pitching of starter Matt O'Brien to take an early 6-0 lead. O'Brien pitched five innings and struck out six, while the FAU offense collected 18 hits to stay perfect on the season at 2-0. FAMU's record falls to 4-4.

Sophomore Alex Fonseca (Tallahassee, FL) made his first start of the season at shortstop and went 4-for-6 batting second in the lineup. He tallied one RBI in the fifth inning in the midst of FAU's biggest inning as they collected three insurance runs. Derek Hutton (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) came around to score on the Fonseca single after the second baseman reached on the team's first triple of the season. Hutton collected two RBI on the triple and finished the game tied for a team-high three RBI with Rob Horst. Horst (Gering, NE) recorded a double in the first and his second home run in as many games in the fourth to put Florida Atlantic up 6-0.
 

 

Matt O'Brien (Royal Palm Beach, FL) allowed one run on four hits as he made his tenth start of his four-year career. Brandon Kloess, Bobby DeMichael, Mark Culp and Andrew Tomlin all came out of the bullpen to see their first action at FAU. Sophomore Allen Knight (Boca Raton, FL) closed out the game in the ninth and recorded two strikeouts.

The Rattlers were led by second baseman Nick Parker's 3-for-3 outing with two RBIs.

Mike Sills threw 4 2/3 innings for FAMU and falls to 1-2 after he allowed nine runs on 13 hits and recorded three strikeouts.

FAU will close out the series on Sunday at 1 pm at FAU Stadium.
