Rob Horst Guides Baseball to 12-2 Win

Feb. 7, 2003

Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University continued its dominance over Bethune-Cookman College as FAU defeated the Wildcats 12-2 for the teams fourth straight win against B-CC and of the season. Rob Horst finished the night with four RBIs and his first home run at FAU.

A five run second and a six run eighth inning helped guide Florida Atlantic (4-0) to its third margin of victory greater than four runs. The offense and pitching continuee to dominate Bethune-Cookman (0-4) as the team collected 12 hits compared to B-CC's 7.

Matt Pali (Houston, TX) produced a single in the second, one of his three hits of the night, to move Rusty Brown (N. Fort Myers, FL) over to second base after a lead off walk. Rob Horst (Gering, NE) then came to the plate to collect his first home run and fourth hit of the season for FAU to give the team a 3-0 lead. The next batter, Evan Brannon was hit by a pitch to reach base before Derek Hutton connected on a shot to left field to give the sophomore from Palm Beach Gardens his first two RBIs of the season.

The team capitalized on Wildcat miscues throughout the latter portion of the game. Four B-CC errors allowed FAU to cross the plate seven times in the final two innings at bat.

Chris Pillsbury (2-0) earned his second win of the season as he struck out six in six innings of work. Matt O'Brien (Royal Palm Beach, FL) and Allen Knight (Boca Raton, FL) both made appearances out of the pen to strikeout three in the final three innings.

Jason Leon falls to 0-2 on the season, suffering both losses to FAU.

On Saturday at 1 pm the two teams will meet for the fifth and final time of the season. Randy Beam will face Mumba Rivera as both make their second start of the year.
