![]() Baseball Improves to 2-2
Feb. 2, 2001 DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Two teams which met in the 1999 Regional Tournament and which both appeared in the 2000 Regional Tournament squared off Friday night. Florida Atlantic University prevailed with a 4-1 victory over host Bethune-Cookman College at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Daytona Beach. Petersen Benjamin improved to 1-1 with a complete game victory. Benjamin's efforts helped FAU improve to 2-2 on the season and capture the first of a scheduled three-game series. Gabe Somarriba, the game's offensive leader was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and a RBI. Shortstop Bobby Spano evened the game in the top of the eighth scoring LJ Biernbaum. The Blue Wave scored two runs in the top of the night, runs the Wildcats couldn't match. Regan Samaniego walked and moved to second on a pass ball. He later advanced to third on Biernbaum's single. In FAU baseball fashion, Samaniego stole home for the team's third run. Freshman Rusty Brown then followed by singling Biernbaum home.
FAU, in a schedule change, will play a double-header 2 pm, Saturday versus Bethune.
