KNOXVILLE,TN - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Regional held in Knoxville, TN on Saturday. The men finished 24th while the women finished 13th.

The women were once again led by the combination of freshman Friederike Feil and junior Trisha Doyle. Feil (35th, 22:23.7) finished just 15 seconds shy of qualifying for the NCAA National Championship meet. Doyle (38th, 22:28.1) continued her string of strong performances to finish out the season. Monika Grabowiecka was the third highest finisher for the Owls finishing 67th in a time of 23:32.8. Ashley Wilcox (110th, 24:51.7) and Allison Wilcox (118th, 25:14.5) also ran well for FAU, helping the women finish in an average time of 23:42.2. Barbara Fronrath (125th, 25:35.1) and Jillian Lopez (141st, 26:52.1) completed the field for the women.

The 13th place finish was the best finish at a NCAA Regional meet in school history. FAU also finished third out of the six Florida schools in the meet, trailing only Florida and Florida State.

"This was by far the steepest course we had run on all year," head cross country coach Alex Smolka said. "It was an 6K (for our women). The fact that we were able to overcome all of that and do so well, both among Florida schools and the overall region is really awesome."

The men finished 24th, led by freshman Taylor Reeves, who finished in a time of 36:40.3. Jordan Zwick (37:06.4) and Stephen Dassin (37:42.0) closely followed Reeves. Earl Barlow finished 145th (29:48.75) and Tim Haines finished 146th (37:57.7) to round out the field for the men.

"All of our men set new personal records in the 10k today. They have really improved over the course of the season. They gained a ton of experience and I want them to continue making progress," Smolka said.
