Women 3rd, Men 5th at Hatter Invitational
Oct. 17, 2009 Deland, FL - The Florida Atlantic University cross country team competed at the Stetson Hatter Invitational on Friday. Friederike Feil was once again the high overall finisher for FAU, finishing 2nd in the women's 5K in a time of 17:55. Lisa Leutner finished 12th in the 5K in 18:56. Charlene Luxama set a personal record (19:32) while finishing 20th. Katie Quick (19:37/23rd) posted one of her best times of the season. Toni Jackson (19:52/29th) rounded out the scoring for the women. Helen Mann (19:57) closely followed in 30th place. Valerie Dixon and Vanessa Penates both set personal records while running unattached. "Our goal was for all of our female scoring runners to finish under 20 minutes and we accomplished that. I think it bodes well for us headed into conference," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka. Stephen Dassin led the men, finishing 7th in the 8K in 26:28. Ryan Davis continued his rapid improvement finishing in 17th place in 27:09. Jordan Dopkins (27:33) just edged out teammate Josh Wolfe (27:34) for 24th place. Mohammed Razib placed 36th in 28:15 to score for the men. "It was a chance for the men to improve and give us some more depth as we head towards conference. They ran really well and have a lot of confidence going into Monroe," said Smolka after the race.
The team will take some time off before going to ULM for the conference championships on October 31.
