Records Abound For Cross Country at Tiger Invitational

Oct. 5, 2008

Complete Release

AUBURN, AL - Several Owl runners set personal records at the Tiger Invitational over the weekend, including Taylor Reeves, setting the school record in the men's 8K for the third straight meet. 13 Owls set personal records at the meet. The meet is known for its traditionally fast times.

Reeves set the school record in the men's 8K finishing 67th in 24:36.23. It is the third time this season that Reeves has set the school record in the event. Timothy Haines was the next highest finisher for FAU, crossing the finish line in 25:12.81 for 95th place. Stephen Dassin (25:46.42/119th), Jay Salois (26:07.36/138th) and Eric Dansky (26:07.68/139th) rounded out the scoring for the men. Jordan Dopkins (26:24.08/149th) and Sean Buono (27:15.49/178th) also ran well. The men finished 2nd among the four Sun Belt teams at the meet, just behind Troy.

Lindsay Lucas was the high finisher for the women, placing 94th in 18:28.75. Toni Shae Jackson finished in 18:32.36 to take 99th. Patricia Gumbs (19:20.65/145th) and Charlene Luxama (19:27.16/148th) were among the runners to set personal bests. Jackson's time improved her personal best by more than a minute. Katie Quick (19:50.08/159th) was the final runner to score for the Owls. Jaymie Brooks finished 179th in 20:35.46, with Deanna Loafman (20:40.11/181st) closely behind to finish up the competitiors for the Owls.

"We ran well against some very stiff competition, and considering how we did compared to the other Sun Belt school, I think it gives up a great deal of confidence for the Sun Belt Championships," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka.

The Owls return to action next weekend when many of the younger runners will compete at the Disney Classic.
