Cross-Country Running Towards A-Sun Championship

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's cross-country teams travel to Nashville, TN on Saturday to participate in the 2004 Atlantic Sun Championship. Both the women and men are coming off their strongest meet after taking first and fifth at the Hatter Fall Invitational. Raynell Hagberg and Trisha Doyle lead the women while Nick Jarriel leads the men.

The women's team will be counting on previous experience from five of its runners. Hagberg will be running in her third consecutive A-Sun championship, finishing 12th in 2003 and 43rd in 2002. Monika Grabowiecka grabbed All-Freshman team honors after finishing 24th in 2003 while Brittany Powers, Antoinette Foster and Artemis Saridakis also participated. Six of the seven members of the men's team will be running in their first A-Sun Championship.
 

 

The women's team holds six of the top-20 5k times in the A-Sun with Hagberg and Doyle holding two of the top three times. Hagberg is tied for first after finishing with a time of 18:24 at the Disney Classic while Doyle is second after finishing with a time of 18:28 at the Gator Invitational. Both runners have also been named A-Sun Runner-of-the-Week. Grabowiecka, ninth in the A-Sun with a time of 18:50, Allison Wilcox, 11th with a time of 18:51, Brittany Powers, 12th with a time of 18:55, and Linn Modin, 18th with a time of 19:12, are the remaining runners in the top-20. Jarriel is 18th in the A-Sun with an 8k time of 26:32.
