Track Team Splits Up This Week
April 8, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University track team will participate in two separate meets this weekend. Head Coach Alex Smolka will take one group down to the University of Miami to participate in the Gatorade Invitational, while assistant coach Owen McGregor will take another group to Arizona State University to compete in the Sun Angel Classic. The Owls will seek to continue the momentum they picked up at the Florida Relays over the weekend, where Toyria Mattear became the first FAU athlete to automatically qualify for this year's NCAA Outdoor Regional. Mattear's time of 1:00.53 in the 400 meter hurdles guarantees her a spot in the East Regional in Tallahassee in May. The sprint medley relay team of Angela Kerr-Smith, Krystal McCarty, Trishauna Clarke and Charlene Luxama also set a school record over the weekend. The trip to Coral Gables will be the third of the outdoor season for FAU. The Owls performed well in their previous two trips to the University of Miami campus this year. Several athletes set personal records at those two meets, and they are expected to perform well at this weekend's meet.
Results for the two meets will be available at thesundevils.com and hurricanesports.com, respectively.
