Track Team Heads to Florida Relays
April 1, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's track team will head to the Florida Relays on April 4 and 5 at Percy Beard Track at the University of Florida in Gainesville. The Owls are coming off of a good showing at the Hurricane Challenge, hosted by the University of Miami the weekend of March 28. Taylor Reeves set an FAU record in the 1,500 meters. Also, Angela Kerr-Smith (200 meters), Patricia Gumbs (800 meters) and Jaymie Brooks (3,000 meters) all set personal records at the meet. "We are expecting the same kind of performance at this year's meet. We're running really well at this point in the season," said Alex Smolka, FAU's head track coach. FAU will try to build upon their performance at last year's Florida Relays when the team set four school records including a new mark in the distance medley relay. Reeves (1,500 meters) and Jordan Zwick (5,000 meters) also set school records. Friederike Feil will try to duplicate her school record performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at last season's meet. Feil's performance also earned an automatic berth in the NCAA East Regional.
