Cross Country Races at Disney World Invitational

Oct. 11, 2003

Complete Results

Orlando, FL - The Cross Country teams at Florida Atlantic University took part in the Disney World Invitational early Saturday morning in Orlando, FL. The women's team placed 10th out of 32 teams, defeating teams like Jacksonville, FIU, and UCF for the first time in school history. For the women, Claudia Beitel came in 8th place among 271 runners with a time of 18:21. The men, meanwhile, sent two runners to represent the Owls, as Greg Burke came in 36th place out of 260 runners.

The Disney World Invitational marks the largest race for both the men and women thus far this year. The women responded well to the crowded course rewriting the average team time record for the second consecutive week (19:29). Raynell Hagberg returned to last season's form running the race in 19:03. Hagberg's time was good enough for 28th place.

Two other Lady Owls finished within the top-quarter of the field. Monika Grabowiecka and Amy Springer completed the course with times of 19:37 and 19:44, respectively.

Completing the team for FAU was Artemis Saridakis (20:42), Abby Moore (21:21), Antoinette Foster (21:29), and Erin Mayros (22:25).

For the men, sophomore Ryan Lavender finished the 8k race in 27 minutes and 55 seconds. Burke's finish was at a time of 26:43.

Running unattached for the women was Sara Anzardo (21:46).

Cross Country runs next at the Stetson Invitational in DeLand, FL, on October 17.
