Women and Men's Cross-Country Take First and Second Place

Winter Haven, Fla. - Riding on the shoes of Freshman Raynell Hagberg and Junior Greg Burke, the Florida Atlantic women's and men's cross-country teams placed first and second, respectively, in the Flrunners.com Invitational on Friday evening. The win was the second of the year for the women's team. Hagberg finished first in the individual standings to lead the women while Burke finished fourth for the men.

Hagburg, a Stuart, Fla. native, ran her best race of the season as she recorded a season best time of 19:04 in the 5k race. Hagberg has now finished in the top-six in three races this season. Not far behind was junior captain Claudia Beitel, who also ran a season best time of 19:50 to finish 5th, her second top-five finish this year. Freshman Kathryn Murnane ran a time of 20:16 to place seventh, her second top-ten finish this year. Freshman Colleen Newton, 21:15, placed 13th and freshman Antoinette Foster ran her best time of the year by far with a 21:26, shaving a minute off of her previous best time to finish 18th.
 

 

Lantana, Fla native Burke ran his best 8k of the year with a time of 27:04 for his second top-five finish this season. Freshman Danny Goldsmith had his highest finish and first top ten finish of his collegiate running career as he ran a time of 27:34 to place tenth overall. All together the Owls had five top ten finishes in this race.

Other notable times for the women are: Andrea Rassi, 22:17, Helenor Wilson, 22:57, Erin Mayros, 23:37, and Cindy Lane, 23:59. Notable times for the men are as follows: Lee Beckman, 27:43, Brian Mulvaney, 28:21, Adam Cortes, 29:01, Jesse Chafin, 29:24, Matt Mazzola, 29:24, Kristian Krayer, 30:14, Orlando Morales, 30:24 and Danny Barney, 31:45.

The top five women's team results are: FAU-1, Eckerd College-2, Warner Southern-3, FIU-4 and Stetson-5. The top five men's team results are: Warner Southern-1, FAU-2, Stetson-3, Webber-4 and Florida Tech-5.

Florida Atlantic's next meet will be October 5th in Gainesville, Fla. for the Florida Invitational.
