Del Cegno, Hagberg Lead Owls at FSU

Sept. 18, 2005

Complete Results

Tallahassee, FL -- Raynell Hagberg and Jon Del Cegno led the way for Florida Atlantic University's cross country teams at the FSU Invitational on Saturday.

Hagberg's time of 18:04.17 was just seven seconds shy of the school record she set last week, leading FAU to a sixth place finish.

Head coach Alex Smolka was very pleased with the way both teams ran on a particularly difficult course against some tough competition.

"If you look at the schools (the women) lost to, it's actually a very good result. We actually beat all of our conference rivals and we had a very solid performance on as a team," he said. "The times that the guys ran were very similar to the times they ran last week, and this course is much tougher. It was a soft and very slow surface with a pair of high hills to contend with."

Trisha Doyle also had a solid effort, posting a 19th place finish with a time of 18:53.98.

Next week, the women's team will split, with half going to the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary NC and the other half going with the men's team down to Miami to take part in a tri-meet with South Florida Rivals the University of Miami and Florida International University.
