Booth Finishes 17th at East Regional
May 25, 2007
GAINESVILLE, FL - Senior Yanique Booth represented the Florida Atlantic University track and field squad with a 17th place finish in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 13.86 seconds. The East Regional is hosted by the University of Florida. "The wind played a factor because her heat was the only one with a negative impact," Head Coach Alex Smolka said. "She put forth a great effort; we were just unlucky to catch the only heat with a negative wind."
Booth finished second in her heat, 0.18 seconds behind Georgia Tech's Shantia Moss. The top finisher in each heat plus the top three remaining times advanced to the finals, scheduled for Saturday. The Jamaica native's season comes to an end and has now exhausted her outdoor track eligibility, although she does have one year of eligibility remaining in indoor track.
FAU has five more athletes competing in the East Regional on Saturday. The 4x400 relay team of Brittany Vollmer, Toyria Mattear, Kerry-Ann Stewart and Malika Clary is ranked no. 13 in the region and will run at 8:50 p.m.
Friederike Feil will attempt to qualify for nationals in the 3,000m steeplechase Saturday at 7:45 p.m. Fiel's top time of 10:49.93 puts her within striking distance of the top competitors in the event and ranks her no. 8 among freshmen in the region.
