Track Running on All Cylinders

Gainesville, FL. - Florida Atlantic University women's track ran on all cylinders Friday at the Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida. Claudia Beitel continued her mastery of the middle distance events, breaking the school time in the 1500m, while Raynell Hagberg, Helenor Wilson and the 4x200m relay team followed suit by breaking records in their respective events.
Beitel, who broke the 3000m school record in consecutive weeks, ran a time of 4:33.46 in the 1500m, shattering the old record by four seconds, to finish 6th out of 60 runners. Raynell Hagberg finished 11th out of 46 competitors in the 800m with a new school record time of 2:13.71, a record she broke the previous week. Helenor Wilson ran an outstanding time of 1:02.55 in the 400m hurdles to finish 19th out of 58 runners. The 4x200m relay team, comprised of freshmen Jian Jones, Malika Clary and Marilyn Stephens and sophomore Daquia McCoy broke the school record that was set almost one year to the day at last years Florida Relays. The FAU "A" team ran a record time of 1:36.93, three seconds faster than the previous record.
In the 200m dash, McCoy ran her second fastest time of the spring with a time of 24.18 to finish 9th out of 47 runners. Katrina Lindsey had her best showing in the pole vault this year with a vault of 3.26m, good for a tie of 11th place. FAU track will participate in its next meet Saturday, April 5 at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, FL.
