FAU Swimming and Diving Start Season Saturday

Sept. 26, 2008

The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swim and dive teams will compete in its' first meet of the 2008-2009 season on Saturday, September 27 at the FAU Pool, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will pit the Owls against Georgia Tech University and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). The meet will be the first for both Georgia Tech and FGCU.

For the FAU women, 2007-2008 was a successful year with a second place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships and final national ranking of seventh. Most of FAU's scorers return including a quartet of seniors in Lindsey Alexander, Bianca Murphy, Lauren Harvath and Jennifer Forcht. Alexander won the 200IM at last year's SBC championships and also finished third in two other events.

On the men's side, the team is young with 18 freshman and sophomores. After placing fifth in the conference last season, seniors Miguel Dorante and Adam Epstein join sophomores Michael Shimansky, David Rudolf and Tyler Griffith as leaders for the Owls.

Florida Gulf Coast University

FGCU women's team finished second at the first annual Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) championships last year. Viktoria Hyddmark was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer and Most Outstanding Freshman Performer of the CCSA's championship meet.
 

 

Georgia Tech University

The Georgia Tech Yellowjackets men's squad finished fourth at the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships last year. Noah Copeland, Onur Uras, Mickey Malul, and Andy Miller earned All-ACC honors. The women's team finished seventh at the ACC Championships and Agatha Kwasnik, Stephanie England and Hannah Krimm earned All-ACC recognition.
