Lady Owl Swim Team Defeated Cincinnati for the First Time

Dec. 21, 2001

Final Stats

BOCA RATON - For the first time in the program's history, Florida Atlantic University's women defeated the University of Cincinnati 136-126. The men defeated Cincinnati 151-111, but were defeated by Purdue University 166-96 and Texas A&M 178-84.

The meet shows great promise for the Owls with a victory over the only other National Independent Conference member in the meet and it excluded diving, which is sure to add points on both the men's and women's side.

Andrea Van Der Platts captured the first event for FAU, the 1000 free in a time of 10:24.87, Marina Mulyayeva on the 100 back (59.50) with a time almost two seconds faster than teammate Kelly Pancake. Christina Horton won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.62 and the 200 breaststroke 2:23.49. Pancake captured the 200 back with a time of 2:10.65. Mulyayeva also won the 100 butterfly at 57.09. Emma Petersson rounded out the individual women's medalist with a time of 2:10.53 in the 200 yard IM.

Antony Hine was the only FAU male swimmer to capture an event with a time of 2:04.55 in the 200 breaststroke.

FAU will next swim January 4 at the FAU pool.
