Swimming Hosts First Meet of the Year
Dec. 20, 2003 BOCA RATON- - Florida Atlantic University's men's and women's swim teams hosted their first meet of the 2003-2004 season Saturday morning against Clemson, Denver, and Utah. Brisk temperatures and a sharp wind greeted the teams as FAU's women's squad pulled off the lone FAU victory, against Denver. Junior Boguslawa Bedyk led the Lady Owls by placing first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.76) and second in the 100-yard free (53.46).
Individually, Emma Petersson also had a strong meet for FAU. The Sweden native finished first in the 200-yard IM (2:09.79) and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.74). Senior Kelly Pancake was the only other Lady Owl to have a top-two finish. Pancake placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.22).
Ellie Weberg placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Lisa Andersson took third in the 50-yard freestyle.
For the men, junior Pavel Babaev glided by the competition in the 50-yard freestyle, on his way to a first place finish (21.49). Babaev was the only Owl to record a top-three finish.
Adam Zeibig finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly.
FAU's next meet will be on January 3, at home against FIU and Pennsylvania.
