Men's Swimming Sweeps Relays

Dec. 20, 2002

Final Stats

With numerous swim teams in the South Florida area for winter practice, Florida Atlantic University faced Clemson, Northern Arizona and Utah, Friday. The four schools competed in a tri-dual meet and saw Clemson win the meet with victories over all opponents on both the men's and women's side.

The FAU men swept the relays as they posted times of 1:34.55 in the 200-yard medley relay and 1:26.10 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The freestyle relay was a closely contested race as FAU edged out Clemson for the top spot by two-tenths of a second.

Robert Langsett and Antony Hine earned first place finishes in their individual events, the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, respectively. Both men posted season-best times. Langsett touched the wall in 9:35.10, while Hine finished the 100 breaststroke in 57.26.

Pavel Babaev, who set a school record in the 50-yard freestyle a month ago, finished second in the 50-free behind Utah's Jonathan Larsen. Babaev is currently ranked no. 12 nationally in the event.

The women's team picked up second place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke from Kelly Pancake (2:08.91), while the 200-yard freestyle relay touched the wall in 1:38.05 for second.

The Lady Owls were able to defeat conference opponent Northern Arizona in dual meet 182.50-116.50. The two teams will face each other again in the conference meet which begins on February 27.

FAU will swim at home again on January 3 as it hosts the FAU Winter Invitational.
