Swimming Finishes Competition at NIC Championships

Feb. 28, 2004

Final Stats

Freshman Ellie Weberg set her second pool record and 'B' cut time in as many days as she won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.95, narrowly missing her own school record by .32 seconds at the National Independent Conference Championships hosted by Oakland University. Weberg helped Florida Atlantic University to a third place showing at the conference championships, while the men finished fifth.

The women's team recorded 'B' cut times in two other events as the women's 400-free relay finished in 3:23.21 for first place. Emma Petersson, Boguslawa Bedyk, Jacqueline Beitel and Lisa Andersson shaved 3 ½ seconds off of the old school record to pick up first place.

Individually, Petersson and Andersson picked up NCAA consideration times in the 100 free with times of 50.57 and 50.72, respectively. The two seniors finished third and fourth in the event.

Picking up her second top-five finish, freshman Geni Burts placed second in the 1650 freestyle in 17:02.72. For the men, Christian Baker also finished in the top-five in the same event. His time of 15:56.89 was good enough for third place.

Scott Hobson finished out his FAU career with a fourth place finish in the 200 backstroke after touching the wall in 1:48.32.

Swimmers that received 'B' cut times await results from across the country to find out if they are invited to the NCAA finals.
