Record Breaking Start

In the first day of competition at the National Independent Conference Championships, the Florida Atlantic University's swim teams broke three school records in four events to finish the first day of competition in second and third place.

The meet got underway on Wednesday evening with the finals of the relay events. In the first 2 events, the women's and men's 200-yard medley relay, FAU broke school records in both events. The women's relay team of Kelly Pancake, Anna Ricknell, Emma Petersson and Valeria Dalmastro recorded a time of 1:46.27 for a second place finish and erased the old school record of 1:46.10 set at the 2002 NIC Championships.
 

 

Rich Marzonie, Antony Hine, Kenny Anderson and Pavel Babaev broke the old school record of 1:31.78 in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.52 for a fourth place finish.

The women's 800-freestyle relay broke a 12-year old record when Emma Petersson, Jacqueline Beitel, Boguslawa Bedyk and Lisa Andersson touched the wall in 7:28.22 to break the old record by more than three seconds.

Competition continues through March 1 at Oakland University.
