Final Stats

In the second day of competition at the National Independent Conference Championships, the Florida Atlantic University swim teams continue to break records. The women's 200-freestyle relay of Lisa Andersson, Valeria Dalmastro, Boguslawa Bedyk and Emma Petersson set an NIC, pool and school record with a time of 1:32.46. The record is the second NIC record that an FAU relay team has broken. Pavel Babaev broke his own record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.41 in the preliminaries on Thursday morning.

With three NCAA consideration times already recorded, Emma Petersson added to her total with a first place finish and 'B' cut time in the 200 IM. Petersson touched the wall in 2:02.27.

The women's team created waves in the 50 free as four swimmers finished in the top six. Andersson posted a 'B' cut time and finished second with a time of 23.36 followed by Dalmastro in fourth (23.82), Bedyk in fifth (23.85) and Jacqueline Beitel in sixth (23.98).

Freshman Geni Burts had a strong showing in the 500 free as she placed third with a time of 4:59.10.

On the men's side, Babaev broke his own record set last season in the 50 free in the morning preliminaries. He would close out the day with a fourth place finish and a time of 20.44 in the finals.

Scott Hobson and Travis Howard picked up 25 points for the Owls with sixth and seventh place finishes in the 200 IM with times of 1:52.23 and 1:53.04, respectively.

With two days remaining of competition the men are in fifth place, while the women are in second, 11 points behind host Oakland University.
