Swimming Off to Fast Start at NIC Championships

Final Stats

Florida Atlantic University's women's 800 free relay team of Emma Petersson, Geni Burts, Boguslawa Bedyk and Lisa Andersson set an National Independent Conference record, pool record and school record in the first night of competition at the NIC Championships hosted by Oakland University. The time of 7:22.43 broke the school record by more than six seconds and was an NCAA 'B' cut time.

Petersson, a senior from Almhult, Sweden swam the first leg of the relay and posted an individual 'B' cut time in the 200 free to get the relay off to a fast start with a time of 1:49.17.

Another school record was set on the women's side in the 200 medley relay after touching the wall in 1:44.15. The time cut almost two seconds off of the old time set last season. Burts teamed with Bedyk, Ellie Weberg and Valeria Dalmastro to post 74 points for the Lady Owls at the end of day one. FAU is tied with host Oakland with 74 points.
 

 

The men's 800 free relay team of Kenny Anderson, Scott Hobson, Christian Baker and Adam Zeibig finished fourth in the event with a time of 6:52.79 for 30 points. The men's team is fifth after one day of competition
