Swimming Wins Final Meet of Regular Season

Final Stats

In the final meet of the regular season, Florida Atlantic University's swim teams won 24 of the meets 32 events to win a dual meet against the University of Tamp and the University of North Florida. The men defeated Tampa 166-94, while the women took a 175-110 victory over UNF and a 163-98 win over Tampa.

Scoring was spread out as 14 different athletes picked up first-place finishes. Senior Emma Petersson led the way with three victories. She won the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 1:53.77 before going on to take the 100 free (52.89) and 200 IM (2:08.48). Kelly Pancake and Ellie Weberg followed with two wins apiece. A breaststroke specialist, Weberg took the 100 and 200 breast in 1:06.59 and 2:25.88, respectively. Pancake won the 100 back in 59.73 and then took the 200 back in 2:07.03.
 

 

Lisa Andersson and Caitlain Spangler won the 50 and 500 free. Andersson won the 40 free in 24.25 and Spangler touched the wall in 5:12.74 in the 500 free.

On the men's side, Kenny Anderson took two victories in the 200 free (1:45.64) and 100 fly (51.47). Another two-event winner, Travis Howard took the 100 and 200 breast with times of 58.67 and 2:10.98.

Pavel Babaev took the sprint freestyle events. He won the 50 free (21.76) and 100 free (48.60).

Five other men took events. Robert Pellicer won the 1000 free in a season-best time of 10:19.91, Rich Marzonie the 100 back (52.97), and Adam Zeibig took the 200 fly (1:54.19).

Scott Hobson and Christian Baker closed out the scoring for the men with victories in the 200 back (1:55.37) and 500 free (4:45.14), respectively.

The squad will travel to the NIC Championships on February 26-28 and try to capture its first NIC Title.
