Student-athletes at FAU benefit from a comprehensive dual advising system. While student-athletes are expected to work closely with their faculty or college advisors to formulate plans of study that coincide with their areas of academic interest, they also have the benefit of working with an academic counselor from the Student-Athlete Academic Center who will educate them regarding NCAA eligibility rules and take steps to keep conflicts between academic tasks (e.g., examinations, reading periods, etc.) and practices or competitions to a minimum. The goal of this dual advising process is to allow students to pursue the degree of their choice, while simultaneously maintaining their athletic eligibility and getting the most out of their potential in the classroom.
It is very important that student-athletes meet each semester with their college advisors to ensure they are taking the correct courses for graduation. Any time a change is made to a schedule, both the athletic counselor and college advisor should be consulted.
