McHugh Finishes 23rd at Florida State Amateurs
7/1/2009 - M. Golf Florida Atlantic University men's golfer Kelly McHugh recently finished 23rd at the 92nd annual Florida State Amateur Championship, held in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. McHugh was tied for third place halfway through the four-round event, carding a second round 68, which was the best score of the day. He shot rounds of 78 on both of the final days of the tournament, finishing with a score of 297. (more) 6/25/2009 - Cross Country Florida Atlantic University Head Cross Country and Track Coach Alex Smolka and cross country runner Eric Dansky will take part in the 18th Maccabiah Games, taking place in Israel from July 13-23, 2009. Smolka was named head coach of the United States Women's Track and Field team in October 2008. Smolka will be making his first trip to the games as a coach. He made the U.S. team as an alternate in the triathlon in 1993. He qualified as a triathlete again in 2001, but the event was canceled. (more) 7/2/2009 - Baseball Owls in MLB Florida Atlantic University baseball alumni Chris Schmitt and Brandon Kloess have signed Major League Baseball free agent contracts, bringing the total number of Owls currently playing with MLB affiliates to 18. Kloess agreed to a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox and Schmitt came to terms with the Baltimore Orioles.
