Florida Atlantic Drops 5-1 Decision in Fort Myers

Florida Gulf Coast won its home finale, defeating Florida Atlantic 5-1 Tuesday night at Swanson Stadium. The result spoiled the outing of FAU's Nick Melendres. The junior lefty faced just two over the minimum through five innings in his first start. Florida Atlantic (27-24-1) finished its midweek schedule 8-8. It was the final home game for Florida Gulf Coast (37-13), the Atlantic Sun Conference champs.

Bodenmiller Named to All-Academic Squad

Florida Atlantic University softball player Blair Bodenmiller recently was named to the CoSIDA Distict III All-Academic Second Team. The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. She is the first Owl to receive the honor since Ginny Matthews was named to the squad in 2002. Bodenmiller recently completed her red shirt sophomore season for the Owls. She has a 3.96 GPA and is majoring in political science.

FAU Clinches Spot in SBC Postseason Tournament

Florida Atlantic (27-23-1) wrapped up its home schedule with six games at FAU Stadium last week, including splitting a three-game conference set with Arkansas State over the weekend. FAU has clinched a top-eight finish in the Sun Belt Conference standings and a spot in the SBC postseason tournament May 20-25 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Florida Atlantic next plays Florida Gulf Coast (36-13) Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Fort Myers.

Owls Finish 7th at Sun Belt Outdoor Meet

The Florida Atlantic University track team finished 7th at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. The Owls finished 8th at last year's meet. Friederike Feil claimed the 3,000 meter steeplechase title in a time of 10:55.52. It was Feil's third individual title as an Owl, after winning both the mile and 3,000 meter steeplechase at last season's indoor meet. Feil finished 2nd in the 1,500 meter and fourth in the 5,000 meters.
