The Florida Atlantic University Foundation recently held a golf tournament at Trump International Golf Club to raise money for athletic scholarships and educational programs. Golfers teed up to support FAU's athletics department and the Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, a unit of the College of Education. The event raised $95,000 to benefit environmental education programs and the athletics scholarship fund.

The day was made possible through the coordinated efforts of a number of partners, including the title sponsor CR Klewin Construction, and other sponsors that included the Cleveland Clinic, The Bernard Stern Foundation, Balfour Beatty Construction, and the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners.

"This was a true team effort that was a win all the way around," said Craig Angelos, FAU's director of athletics. "The committee's chair, Ed Tinari, spearheaded a group that hosted an outstanding event, on a day that weather held, but more importantly money was raised to benefit Florida Atlantic students."

The day began with tournament participants being greeted by student athletes in the entry hall. The hall was lined with photographs of children taking part in environmental educational activities at Pine Jog and renderings of FAU's proposed football and baseball stadiums. Following lunch and a presentation to each golfer, nearly 130 golfers experienced five hours of play on a course that is unparalleled, with terrain that can not be matched in the state.

Angelos and Pat Welch, executive director of the Pine Jog Environmental Education Center, presented CR Klewin Construction with a framed flag from Trump International during a reception. A dinner and award ceremony ended a day that ultimately raised $100,000 to benefit FAU students through scholarship dollars, and encourage future environmental leaders through Pine Jog's educational and summer camp programs for school-aged students.

"I am so pleased that so many folks turned out to support FAU," said Jeff Koons, Palm Beach County commissioner. "It is vitally important to the future of the State of Florida that we support higher education to provide our teachers, nurses, and workforce of tomorrow."
